Forget reports that have the third installment of "High School Musical" turning into a "Haunted High School" theme. "No," says director Kenny Ortega, "you know, early on, that got started, but it's not. Right now, it's just entitled 'High School Musical 3.' I don't know if it's going to have another title other than that."It's really like the last year in the life of the Wildcats," he goes on, referring to the team at the center of the fantastically popular "HSM" movies. "It's all going to be in the halls of East High, a wonderful sort of explosion into our final year at East High, and all that can be, and mean, for kids that are going to leave it all behind. What is going to be their legacy? What is going to be their experience in their last months? I think anyone who's ever been in high school is going to connect with it -- and everyone who looks forward to high school is going to connect with it."Ortega tells us the plan is to begin rehearsals for the movie "in February, and to start shooting either in late March or early April, and it's due out next fall."Ortega was joined by Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Corbin Bleu, Monique Coleman and other members of the "HSM" cast (sans Lucas Grabeel) for the red-carpet DVD Sing-Along premiere of their "High School Musical 2" this week at Disney's El Capitan Theatre. Other Disney Channel favorites were also on hand -- including Cheetah Girls Adrienne Bailon and Kiely Williams; Jason Earles and Moises Arias of "Hannah Montana"; and David Henrie. (Despite the relative newness of his show, "The Wizards of Waverly Place" cutie already had a corps of fans screaming for him from across Hollywood Boulevard).Corbin, Vanessa and Ashley each told us they were looking forward to spending Thanksgiving at home with their families -- before rushing off to their other activities. For Corbin, that means flying back to Vancouver, where he's going to shoot the independent production "Freestyle," a motocross-themed movie. "I'm producing on it as well. We start production Sunday."The fact that attendees had pretty much all seen "High School Musical 2" didn't seem to dampen anyone's enthusiasm as they viewed (and sang and clapped along with) the summer vacation-themed picture. It was followed by a party across the street at the Hollywood and Highland entertainment center. The ballroom was transformed into a "High School Musical" wonderland, complete with a "swimming pool" of blue carpet loaded with inflatable chairs and floats and beach balls that were soon flying all over the area; a miniature golf course; a karaoke tent; a "lounge" in which to sample computer games; a hat-making craft area, and several bars and buffets serving fare from seafood tacos and hamburger silders to monogrammed pink golf balls (in this case, a fudge-filled confection) a la those seen used by rich girl Sharpay in the movie. The biggest attraction, however, was the VIP section where the movie's stars were hanging out, posing for pictures and signing autographs. Among the recipients of those special attentions were members of the Teen Impact Program at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. The event was held as a benefit for the program, which provides middle- and high-school age cancer patients opportunities for therapeutic retreats and adventure trips, psychotherapy and a variety of events year-round. Rich Ross, President, Disney Channels Worldwide, was honored by the group as part of the festivities. Ross has been facilitating visits to the Hospital by Disney Channel stars, as well as a range of other activities in support of the program, for years.
