Emmy Awards PreviewThe 2008 Primetime Emmy Awards are set to air live on ABC September 21st from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. This is a special year for the Emmys, as it marks its 60th anniversary. The show features several more nominations for programs on cable versus the series from the major networks dominating the lists as in previous years. In fact, 'Mad Men' and 'Damages' reportedly made Emmy-history by being the first basic cable programs to be nominated in a best series category. Added to the Outstanding Drama Series, Dexter, House and Boston Legal. 'Mad Men' had the most nominations overall in the drama -- with 16 -- and over in comedy, it was '30 Rock' with 17. The list for best in Comedy Series include 30 Rock, Curb Your Enthusiam, Entourage, The Office and Two and a Half Men. Some of the best actors, funny and serious, include Charlie Sheen, Steve Carrell, Alec Baldwin and James Spader. The chopping block on the female-flip-side include Christina Applegate, America Ferrera, Tina Fey, Glenn Close and Sally Field. Katherine Heigl pulled herself from the Emmy-running, being quoted as saying she didn't feel her character was given the material this season to warrant a nomination. Also announced in Mid-July is the introduction of a new Emmy category: top-host for a reality-competition show. From Ryan Seacrest to Heidi Klum to Jeff Probst to many more. You can tune-in to see the winners from categories such as Animated Program, Children's Program, Music as well as for Acting, Directing, Cinematography and all of the various technical categories included in putting together television programming. It's not only a night to celebrate the best in the tv field, but it's also a time to recognize the hard work going into all parts of production.
