The final race will be remembered for the fall of American Lindsey Jacobellis on the penultimate jump. Jacobellis had a commanding lead in the snowboard cross final but attempted a trick on the penultimate jump, lost her balance, and crashed to the ground, seeing Switzerland's Tanja Frieden passing her to take the gold medal. The best showing for an athlete from a country where the occurrence of snow is rare was that of Isabel Clark Ribeiro from Brazil.
